Change in our Books 24x7 eBooks collection

The “Leadership Channel” and “Fifty Lessons” videos are no longer available in Cambridge College Online Library. They were available in our Books 24x7 eBooks database. This was a decision by the database provider, not Cambridge College. 

  

There are still more than 38,000 recent and popular management and business books and videos in our Books 24x7 eBooks collection, as well as books in other subject areas, including well-being topics; hardware and software manuals; 826 “Dummies…” books on various topics; and much more. 

Compared to our Ebrary Electronic Books collection, the Books 24x7 eBooks collection is more hands-on and less theoretical.  It has many management and business books of the type you would find featured in general bookstores, as well as books on psychology and self-help.

The Books 24x7 eBooks collection will continue to include the following:

Business Pro - 9,700+ titles in Management, Marketing & Employee Training and more

Well Being Essentials - 1,400+ titles in  Working Smarter, Being Green & Living Healthy and more

Finance Pro - 1,700+ titles in Auditing, Ethics & Risk Management and more

IT & Desktop Videos - 9,700+ titles in Graphic Design, Microsoft Office & Operating Systems and more

  

Engineering Pro - 3,700+ titles in Food & Coloring Chemistry, Bioengineering & Nanotechnology and more

  

IT Pro - 12,700+ titles in Databases, Enterprise Computing & Graphic Design and more

Ebrary Electronic Books has a new look- now easier to read and download books!

Our Ebrary Electronic Books collection Reader has been upgraded by its new owner, Proquest. We are now using what Ebrary calls the "New Reader."

The "New Reader" has these improvements:

• Clearer user permissions and information on ebooks for patrons

• Intuitive navigation to locate popular features faster

• Higher text quality and display options for better readability

• Streamlined tasks such as copy, print, download and in-book search
• Downloading books to a mobile device is much easier!

Warning! Ebrary also provides instructions for earlier versions of its readers, known as "Old Reader" and "Quickview."  Please be sure to follow only the "New Reader" instructions.

Warning! The APA citation builder for Ebrary creates incorrect citations. Ebrary's APA citation builder is capitalizing all words in the title of the book. But in APA style, only the first word of the title is capitalized, and the first word after a colon in the title.  Never rely on an online citation-building tool! Always check its results against an official APA style manual. 

Good news for education and counseling/psych researchers from two databases in CCOL

Good news #1: For the last two years, the big US-government funded education database ERIC has had to remove much of its full text collection due to copyright issues.  As of July 31, ERIC has announced that 94% of these documents have been restored. They are also cleaning up documents that were unreadable due to technical reasons. Cambridge College Online Library searches ERIC in our Education, Counseling/Psych, and Search for All search boxes.

Good news #2  The PsycBooks database from American Psychological Association has announced these changes:

NEW! No more embargo on current titles

·         PsycBOOKS now includes access to new APA-published scholarly and professional books as they are released.

"Ask a Live Librarian" changes to "Chat with a Live Librarian" on July 1

Our online "live librarian" 24/7/365 reference service will change slightly on July 1 when we change providers.  Our new team of online live librarians will continue to answer your research questions in online chat.

We think the new service will respond faster. You will no longer need to sign up for an account. At the end of your session you will be prompted to ask for the transcript.

If you need help with your research or using the library anytime, day, night, and every day, don't hesitate to click in the "Chat with a Live Librarian" box on this home page. You'll be connected to a live reference librarian who will recommend databases and websites. You don't have to take notes, because at the end of the chat you can click to receive a transcript of everything the librarian suggested, includng all those long URL web addresses.

CCOL is getting an upgrade - the home page and other pages will look slightly different - revised instructional materials will be posted soon

The CCOL is getting an upgrade that is mostly cosmetic, but will hopefully make it easier to use.

As of June 4, new instructional materials will be posted as soon as the upgrade is complete, which should be very soon.

If you are getting an error message that a URL has changed, here is what to do:

Cambridge College has just launched a new design for its website, which is good news, but the bad news is that your computer is still trying to visit the old website.

If you click from the buttons on the left menu of the home page (CCOL Instructions, Research Help, etc.) and get the error message "The URL for this page has changed," that's because your computer is still trying to go to the old address.

You will need to clean out your computer's brain so it forgets the old address. You do this by clearing the cache.  For instructions for each type of browser, go to http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache

If you continue to get error messages, please click "Contact Technical Support" from the menu on the left of the home page and then click "contact eGlobal Technical Support."

You can also go directly to the pages CCOL Instructions, Research Help, Writing/Reading Help, EFL/ESL Help, etc. from the left menu of http://www.cambridgecollege.edu/library-services-0 under the words "Library Services," but we hope you will also clear your cache so you can go directly from the CCOL in the future.
